Season’s Greeting to all of our Friends!

We hope you will join us tonight for the Latin American Solidarity Committee’s Annual Holiday Get-Together and Idea Sharing! Come out to celebrate with LASC for all of the work and success for 2018, and looking forward to a new year with community and making change. 7pm, El Buen Amigo, 114 Elmwood Ave.

Also we celebrate a success in the Senate ruling for the US to divest from war in Yemen! Thank you to all of the community members, organizers and activists for being a part of this very meaningful vote towards peace and justice. Let’s continue to work towards this goal; this is affirmation that our work does not go unrewarded, and really does have power.

Planning is under way for the Women’s March! Please tell people to mark their calendars! Also, visit wnypeace.org for more information about co-sponsorship and other ways to get involved.

In addition, we hope you will join us to hear about our Executive Director’s trip to Afghanistan, working with the Afghan Peace Volunteers! Thursday is the day to either join us in the morning or evening to hear about what’s going on in Afghanistan. More information in the post.

Dear Friends,

Giving Tuesday has arrived!

We are in awe of how many people have joined with us over the years, and continue to join us, to create positive change in our communities, and in the world.

Whether it has been through our social justice taskforces, working with our committees on sustaining the work, or volunteering with us at community events to continue to spread the message and get others involved, we are thankful for you.

As you know, the WNY Peace Center has been working towards Peace through Justice since 1967. We are honored to continue doing this necessary work. As everyone prepares for the biggest day of giving of the year, please consider donating to the WNY Peace Center.

Or consider becoming members, or renewing your membership, which continues throughout 2019. For organizations, we also offer institutional membership! Give us a call at 716-332-3904.

This is an amazing way to see your contributions in full force. We look forward to another 51 years of working towards Peace through Justice.

Many thanks, peace, solidarity, and yes – Love

Women’s Rights are Human Rights

Greetings!

We hope that everyone is doing well, and that Peace, Love and Justice are engaging us all.

The decision by the Senate Judiciary Committee to move Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination forward has tuned everyone into the national conversation regarding the judicial nomination, as well as assault and abuse. As it seems, there may be a one week delay so that the FBI can investigate the claims against Kavanaugh.

Let’s all be there to Support women. Female or male, we are all called in this moment to Stand with women. Listen to women. Respect Women.

Many are wondering how to get involved at this important time, and how to navigate it all. So we wanted to offer some suggestions:

Your voice is very powerful. You are always welcome to call your senators and let your stance be known about important matters. This weekend, and the coming week, is one where many are choosing to use that power.
Get involved! There are many groups demonstrating, rallying, protesting, writing post cards, getting out the vote, starting conversations in their communities, etc., etc. Be a part of the change you wish to see.
VOTE on November 6. And communicate to others that their vote counts, too. Our vote. Our voice.
SELF-CARE is not just a phrase. It is an extremely important phrase! Everyone is at heightened emotional levels regarding what is happening in our country right now. Take good care of yourself, whatever that means for you. Get involved. Take a moment to breathe. Go to that rally. Take a day to be with family and friends. Have folks over for dinner. Whatever works for you.
The national conversation around sexual violence and abuse has not been easy for many. As someone stated, many survivors of sexual assault are reliving trauma. If you need to talk, you can call 1-800-656-HOPE to reach a national, confidential helpline 24/7. There is also an online hotline at https://hotline.rainn.org/online.

Peace, Love, Justice, Health, Wellness, and Wholeness to us all.
