Where: Erie County Holding Center (10 Delaware Ave)

India Cummings was released from the Erie County Holding Center without charge on 17 February 2016, but she was found to be brain-dead when she was examined at the hospital.
She had a broken arm,
she broken ribs,
she was severely dehydraded,
she had a leg that required amputation due to a blood clot,
and she was in cardiac arrest.
Four days later, 21 February 2016, she was pronounced legally dead when her remaining organs failed. Her autopsy was not available for 9 months and after all that time, her death was pronounced inconclusive. We are outraged at the callous disregard for this young woman’s life.

We demand justice for India Cummings who was just 27 years old. It is apparent that she was abused and obvious that she was criminally neglected in the Holding Center. Moreover, her death is devastatingly familiar. This is not unprecedented in this Holding Center and Sheriff Timothy Howard was just re-elected last November. Sheriff Howard said he was “more than satisfied” with India Cummings’s treatment in his Holding Center. What kind of monster is satisfied with treatment that leads to death?!? In plain words this was a signal to his underlings to close ranks and cover-up what they did.

The Holding Center is an affront to the city of good neighbors. Sheriff Howard appeared, in uniform, at a political rally where the traitorous Confederate flag was flown and Neo-Nazis were present. We see who he is. India Cummings was a beautiful person who is not forgotten! We will remember her life and continue to demand justice in her name.
