Peace Action and Educating to Stop Wars

Speaker: Jim Anderson: a Vietnam veteran — turned international peace and social justice activist, Jim is deeply engaged in intersectional organizing across issue areas. Jim is the President of Peace Action New York State and State Vice President of Citizen Action of New York. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of national Peace Action. He is a founding member and organizer of the National Black United Front, which led the formation of the Third World and Progressive People’s Coalition that helped organize the massive June 12th, 1982, nuclear disarmament rally in New York City’s Central Park. Jim served as an organizer and leader for the peace contingents of both the 2014 New York City and 2017 Washington, DC. climate mobilizations.

Peace Action New York State (PANYS) is the state affiliate of Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace network with chapters and affiliates across the country placing pressure on Congress and the Administration to promote peace. We are a 501(c)(4) nonprofit membership organization that uses lobbying and direct political action to complement the work of the Peace Action Fund of New York State. We connect activists in community and campus chapters for coordinated action to demand U.S. foreign policy that promotes diplomacy and human needs, and to challenge militarism at home and abroad. With chapters across the entire state, Peace Action New York is able to mobilize and organize thousands of students, community activists and policymakers. State-wide actions are coordinated
through the state office, and we bring the voice of New York to the national level. In election years, PANYS also coordinates the Peace Voter campaign to educate voters, endorse candidates who support peaceful policy, and get out the vote across New York!
