Next to the last chance to buy tickets for the WNYPC 52nd Annual Dinner! Tomorrow is the last day for dinner orders (except for a handful of extra tickets available at the door), and today is the very last day for ads.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, 11/5) we have a basket-making party – you can bring items for silent auction, or basket(s), to the WNYPC at 1272 Delaware, from Noon on, til 7pm.

52nd Annual Dinner with Medea Benjamin

Join us to celebrate our 52nd Annual Dinner, with special guest, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Medea Benjamin, the co-founder of the women-led peace group CODEPINK and the co-founder of the human rights group Global Exchange. She has been an advocate for social justice for more than 40 years!
The event, Nov 8, 5-9pm at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, is not to be missed. Not only is Medea and her perspective vital for people and the planet (more on Medea directly below), but we will also be giving out three very important awards:
— The WNY Resistance Revival Chorus, with former Artistic Director Drea D’nur, a wonderfully committed & progressively-minded women’s chorus, will be getting the Alt-imate Activist Award (named for WNY Peace Center lifelong stalwart member, organizer, and activist, Wayne Alt);
— Valentino Dixon will receive the Emerging Leaders Award! As most of you know, Valentino was just released when exonerated after 27 years of outrageous, unjust incarceration.
– Peace Action Canisius College, another PeaceAction group (along with the WNYPC) will be getting the Don Shaffer Student Peacemaker Award. The group is dedicated and creative; collaborates with us for the LASC organized monthly Peace Coffeehouses; and richly deserves this award for all their dedication!

The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Professor Dorothea Braemer featuring Professor Mike Niman and Community Activist and former Canisius College Professor Heron Simmonds. – Monday, 10/28, from 7-9pm the Peace Coffeehouse will feature “The Journey of Puerto Rico, a colony of the USA” with local poet and activist Albert O. Cappas, as well as Christian Parra. The history, current situation, and prospects for this unincorporated territory (read de facto colony) with its magnificent and unique culture will be explored.

Kings Bay Plowshares Trial (Brunswick, GA)

The trial for these wonderful and courageous, loving activists, our friends Carmen Trotta, Clare Grady, Liz McAlister, Mark Coville, Martha Henessey, Patrick O’Neil, and Steve Kelly will be in Brunswick, GA, where they are each facing up to 25 years for their vital witness to publicize the nuclear timebomb, threat, and usurping of resources. All are welcome to come and support them during their trial. It will begin with jury selection at 9 a.m. on Monday October 21 at the federal court house downtown. Greyhound collaborates with ICE, DHS, and CBP, allowing their agents to board buses and interrogate passengers without a warrant, subjecting them to unnecessary delays and detainment. Get ready for the Week for the Future – and especially Friday’s rally! With our youth and young adults – and older adults – stepping into high gear, please pace yourself while helping to spread the word.
Today, please join us for Resist Militarism! Taskforce meeting at Isaías González-Soto Branch (formerly Niagara Branch) Library, 280 Porter Ave, Buffalo 14201; 5-6:30pm. We desperately need to stop the militarism at home and abroad that makes us more unsafe and unwell (the US military is the world’s #1 polluter).
Tomorrow – Thursday, Sept 19 – we hope you can:
– support wind energy either by coming out to the Erie County Legislature on at 1-2:30pm; and/or to call your county legislator (either today or tomorrow) to urge him or her to support Wind Energy and oppose the anti-wind resolution. More info below.
– come out to a rally 4-6pm at 65 Court St. for Gov Cuomo to sign the Wage Theft Bill that he’s holding up, which stops employers from hiding assets from employees. You can also call his office
We very much hope you’ll join us this Friday for the Youth Climate Strike/#Unite/Int’l Day of Peace, 2-5pm at Niagara Square. We remind you that the rally will support the youth and climate emergency action, #unite us, and inspire us! As you probably know, the Youth Climate Strike is called upon the verge of the UN Climate Change Summit. The US Military is the biggest polluter in the world. The Erie County Legislature is considering a hostile anti-wind resolution sponsored by Legislators Dixon and Mills and supported by Chris Collins to preemptively oppose wind development “along the shores of Lake Erie”. Come testify, or if you can’t, please contact your county legislator to ask him/her to oppose the anti-wind energy resolution. Global [youth Peru] Leadership Adventure talk

GLA is a company that creates programs for high schoolers to volunteer, travel and learn about other cultures. Her trip in Peru was called Foundations of Global Health
