March to Stop Shooting! today 5pm starting at Genesee & Ash

Sunday, September 13, 2020

As you know from our last email, and likely other media, yesterday the Buffalo Police shot a man who was the subject of a mental health call. He’s now at ECMC in “critical but stable” condition.

The LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) program is desperately needed, but it is not enough. The police culture, the guns, the impunity – all create this result which must STOP HERE, Right Here, Right Now!

We are part of Free The People WNY, and echo the press release just put out today: “We demand that the mayor and the common council remove the Crisis Intervention Team and all related funds out of the police department and use the funds to develop a crisis response team independent from the police department.” Please see above or our Facebook page for the complete press release.

Please join us at 5pm today on Genesee at Ash St to March to Stop Shooting! Please bring signs. All are welcome…  and it will take all of us to make the changes we need.

Note too this coming Saturday at 2pm at Niagara Square the next session of First Steps. See below for more info.

Peace, thanks, solidarity and yes – Love!

First Steps – Collective Nonviolent Direct Action Study – Planning & Strategy

September 19 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

At Niagara Square. Second session. Please review Collective Nonviolent Direct Action Resources, including the first session (given twice, one of which is on tape) here, in preparation for this session. Local activist/progressive groups and individuals are invited for this brainstorming session which will not be taped. We need this both now with our current crises, and very (very) likely as the national situation progresses.
