WATER IS LIFE Walk, Sunday 1/29, Start 1pm NiagSq; and more ;)

Come, Water Protector, Please!
Dear Friends, 1/25/17
As our dear and beloved hero Daniel Berrigan said, "Our apologies, good
friends, for the fracture of good order .... " upon the burning of draft
files by the Catonsville Nine. We do nothing so noble or courageous, yet
we have been turning our “Weekly Update” announcements into daily
announcements because – the time is now, things are happening fast, and
this is not a practice run.

So we urge you to use good self-care, deep slow breathing, and whatever
helps you deal with the terrible acts and threatening horizons of the
Trump administration, and to come out when you can, publicize the events
and campaigns as you can, and know that we are all in this together.

As Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said, “I believe that unarmed truth and
unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right,
temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”

Please join us this Sunday, 1/29, 1pm in Niagara Square for “Water is Life
Walk on Buffalo” (continues on to the Water at Canalside).

Peace/Salam/Shalom/Shanti! Nya weh/Asanti/Gracias/Tashakor/Thanks!!

SUNDAY, Jan 29, WATER IS LIFE WALK on Buffalo; 1pm start in Niagara Square

On Jan. 24, President Trump signed executive orders advancing major oil
pipeline projects (Dakota Access Pipeline, Keystone Pipeline). We oppose
the construction of oil pipelines, which intrude on tribal lands, put all
lands and waters at risk for serious contamination and pollution, and pose
health and safety hazards for people living in the vicinity.

We walk to raise WNY awareness of these pipeline projects and sent a
statement to elected officials that opposition to these projects is
strong. We stand in solidarity with indigenous peoples whose lands are
targeted for pipeline construction and come together to support them and
learn from them. This is a first step to further organization and
mobilization against pipeline projects right here in WNY.

Cohosts include Buffalo Supports Standing Rock Water Protectors; Buffalo
Solidarity with Standing Rock; Indigenous Women's Initiatives; Burning
Books; and more!!

You can sign on individually or sign up your organization. We’ll be

as it becomes available. Meanwhile please sign on!

Join with us to urge Senators – especially Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand -
absolutely everything in their power to block the terrible cabinet picks
that have been and are being selected! The epitome of foxes proposed to
guard chicken house! Our visit to Sen Schumer’s officer yesterday
initiated by Moveon.org, generated the info that we should send snail mail
and sign petitions!

Info re Cabinet and Other Proposed Officials:
The proposed cabinet of P-E Trump is the embodiment of the foxes in charge
of the various chicken coops. Please go to petitions.moveon.org where you
can find (and even create) the petitions needed. Or call or contact Sens.
Schumer and Gillibrand (202-224-3121) to voice your opposition.

*Rex Tillerson:APPROVED by committee!! inappropriate as Secretary of
State as he, as former Chair & CEO of Exxon-Mobile, has had substantial
business dealings with Russia
and lobbied for ending sanctions to enable a proposed contract between
Exxon-Moblie and Russia - egregious conflicts of interest.

*Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn: outrageous as National Security Advisor as his
Islamophobic remarks include claiming sharia law is spreading in this
country (when it isn’t) and his having been a paid lobbyist for the
Turkish Government shows his mercenary attitude toward national security.

*Mike Pompeo: JUST APPROVED!!! One of the most partisan to ever head the
CIA, Mike Pompeo has denounced President Obama’s closing of black-site
prisons, advocated for bulk retention of calling records (ie spying on
entire populace without probable cause), and denounced adherence to the
rules of the Army Field Manual in interrogations.

*Sen. Jeff Sessions: inappropriate as Atty Gen as he has a history of racism,
AND recently couldn’t affirm that irreligious persons may be just as correct
as others in assessing law.

*Steve Mnuchin: inappropriate as Treasury Secretary
as he has made millions on leaving the bank he directed that undertook
foreclosures on homeowners on trivial excuses.

*Scott Pruitt: inappropriate for leading the Environmental Protection Agency
as he is (outrageously) a climate change denier (!!) and has sued the
EPA 11 yes eleven times.

*Betsy Devos: inappropriate as Education Secretary as she doesn’t support
public education and does support guns in schools!!

*Ben Carson: inappropriate to lead Housing and Urban Development as his only
experience in this area is having grown up in public housing.

*and more …..

Cariol Horne Whistleblowers’ Fund This fund, created by the WNYPC, was
a to support police officers who face reprisals from their department for
choosing to strictly uphold their oath to protect and serve the community.
The fund is named for Cariol Horne, former police officer, who faced
when she saved the life of a citizen who was being subjected to excessive
force on her duty. She was fired just prior to earning her 20-year pension.
The goal of the fund is to encourage good police officers to follow their
conscience if and when it conflicts with the infamous blue wall of silence.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_wall_of_silence). The firs day $565 was
raised. Please go to
