“We Resist Being Squeezed” Thurs 11-1; Resistance Wkend; more
Wnypeace.org 716-332-3904 Tues, Jan 3, 2017
Dear Friends,
Please join us in justice and solidarity by coming out to two Thursday events:
Thurs, Jan 5, 11am-1pm “We Resist Being Squeezed” – stand in silent vigil lining the street with signs (bring your own statement!) to shame those spending $5,000 for lunch with Kelly Ann Conway, Trump advisor. Tentatively set for Westin Hotel/Delaware North Bldg, 250 Delaware (cnr w Chippewa), Buffalo NY 14202 (check wnypeace.org to see if fundraiser location was changed, which would move our vigil). We, the 3rd poorest city in the country, need the resources being diverted. Come for as short or long as you can! Sponsored include Stronger Together, Interfaith Peace Network, Sierra Club, Working Families Party, the WNY Peace Center, and more.
Thurs, Jan 5, 6-9pm, “Methane: NY’s Dirty Addiction to Shale Gas” viewing, discussion, and action planning. Crane Library, 633 Elmwood Ave (cnr w Highland), Buffalo. Sierra Club, WNY Drillling Defense and WNY Peace Center’s Environmental Justice Taskforce collaborating.
Also please join us for Buffalo Resistance Weekend – see below. Remember, democracy is not a spectator sport. Now’s the time! We Shall Overcome!/Si, se puede!
Happy New Year: our upcoming Best Year Yet (crises=opportunity)!
Solidarity, Justice, Thanks, and – yes, Love. Victory!

Campaigns
*Cariol Horne Whistleblowers’ Fund
The WNY Peace Center has created a fund to support police officers who face reprisals from their department from choosing to strictly uphold their oath to protect and serve the community. The Peace Center has named this fund after Cariol Horne who saved the life of a citizen, but was fired just prior to earning her 20-year pension. Our goal is to encourage good police officers in following their moral conscience if and when it conflicts with the infamous blue wall of silence ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_wall_of_silence). So far $565 has been raised in one day. Please go to https://www.gofundme.com/cariol-horne-whistleblower-fund to contribute. Many Thanks!!
*Buffalo 25
Please contact the U.S. Attorney before Dec. 30 and ask him to drop charges against the Buffalo 25 Mexican restaurant workers who have charges pending. Five are incarcerated in local jails in outlying counties and three have ankle bracelets. Their only alleged crime is re-entry. The U.S. Attorney is James P. Kennedy, Jr. His address is: United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, 138 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY 14202; Telephone 843-5700.
Please send contributions for the Buffalo 25 and their families to: Trinity Episcopal Church (with #Buffalo25 in the memo line of your check), 371 Delaware Ave., Buffalo NY 14202. ¡Muchas Gracias! ¡Si, se puede!
*Standing Rock Water Protection
Tuesdays, 6:30pm Buffalo Supports Standing Rock Water Protectors! Part of Nekanesakt; Friends of the Indigenous People, a coalition. At Burning Books, 420 Connecticut St., Buffalo.
People are still at the camp, as it’s not over ‘til it’s over. From “Honor The Earth”:
“The resistance camps at Standing Rock are more than just opposition to a pipeline – they are the embodiment of a historic resurgence of Indigenous Nations, and a blossoming, multi-racial, grassroots movement to protect our Mother Earth. It is essential that we carry the energy from this fight forward, to the many other places where fossil fuel infrastructure projects threaten our lands and water.”
You can donate through the Buffalo Supports Standing Rock Water Protectors Group. Warm winter clothes especially outer garments can be brought to Burning Books, 420 Connecticut Ave. Or money can be donated through Riverside-Salem UCC/DC (on line at http://riversidesalem.org/ or via check payable to Riverside-Salem UCC/DC; sent to 3449 West River Road, Grand Island, NY 14072; in either case, be sure to specify “Standing Rock” on memo line of the check.)
