Buffalo Stands with Standing Rock!
Approximately 150 people gathered to Stand in Solidarity with Standing Rock, outside the Army Corps of Engineers on Monday. It was an inspired and energizing gathering, including ideas such as Water is Life; you can’t drink oil; respect Indigenous peoples and the need for prior and informed consent; as well as changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Heritage Day. The WNY Peace Center joined with Indigenous Women’s Initiative, Nekanesakt, Burning Books, Native American Community Services, District Parent Coordinating Council, Sierra Club, and many others to rally, march, spread awareness, and celebrate the courage of those at Standing Rock, and the importance of their cause to us all and to our children to the 7th generation! Dancing, kayaking, drumming, and singing helped send along the earnest hopes and solidarity.
