Follow up on proposed legislation for Trapping Ban on Grand Island:
On Monday June 6, Grand Island Government Town Workshop changed the proposed legislation [Banning Lethal Sport, For-profit Trapping On All Town Owned Lands] as presented at the April 4, 2016 Public Hearing. Keyword “nuisance” has been omitted.
Without the inclusion of the term “nuisance,” the decision to accept or reject a trapping permit request would be an arbitrary process, one that could ultimately allow sport/recreational/for-profit trapping on public land.
A Public Hearing will be held on Monday, June 20 to receive public input on the new proposed legislation. Supervisor McMurray is working to get a second law presented at that same Public Hearing for the trapping law and it will reportedly include the word “nuisance.”
Given these developments, we would like to please ask that you do two things:
(1) Write to McMurray, Billica, Kinney, and Aronica (and Madigan if you are inclined) to let them know that you would only support Town of Grand Island Code 239-6 with the inclusion of the word nuisance, as was read at the April 4, 2016 Public Hearing; and
(2) Attend the public hearing on Monday, June 20 at 8pm at the G.I. Town Hall and bring supporters.
Request that the Town Clerk enter your communication into the public record regarding Town of Grand Island Code 239-6.
