Love to Afghanistan – WNY

Join the WNY Peace Center and Women In Black for a vigil (signs welcome!) in solidarity with the long-suffering people of Afghanistan, now facing the worst crisis ever!
After 20 years of war in Afghanistan, the Afghan people are suffering more than ever. Hunger could kill more now than in 20 years of war. We urge all pressure members of Congress to call on the administration to **unfreeze the frozen funds, relax sanctions, and increase humanitarian aid**.
We and our senators & reps must lobby the Biden Administration to release the Afghan money supply, stop sanctions, and provide humanitarian relief for the millions facing starvation this winter. As of this writing, the main focus is getting Senators to support the Merkley Letter on the looming Afghanistan famine and the economic collapse driving the suffering.
If you can’t come, please at least call Senators Schumer’s & Gillibrand’s offices (Capitol Switchboard 202-224-3121).

Talking Peace taping: Critical Race Theory (CRT)

With Professor Athena Mutua, JD, MA, LLM, UB Law School; Floyd H. & Hilda L. Hurst Faculty Scholar, international CRT expert; Deidra EmEl, Executive Director, WNY Peace Center; and Vicki Ross, WNYPC Community Coordinator.

Discussion:

  • What is Critical Race Theory (CRT), and how has it developed?
  • What is the current controversy over CRT about?
  • How does it relate to our current inequity (and denial) nationally? internationally?
  • How has Nikole Hannah-Jones (UB Distinguished Speaker for Feb 16; tickets still available) re-framed our conversations on race?
  • ways people get involved and work to abolish racism and reverse its effects worldwide

The show is taped for just under an hour by Think Twice Radio: Home of the Future (thanks to Richard Wicka, our wonderful producer). The Zoom recording, livestreamed on Facebook during the taping, will air on WBNY 91.3FM on the following Monday at 1pm EST. After airing, you can also find the video archived on the WNY Peace Center YouTube channel.

Humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

Starvation and hunger is sweeping across Afghanistan due a collapse in the economy. What has led to this catastrophic crisis is primarily the fault of the U.S. government by freezing Afghan assets in U.S. banks, and U.S. policies that are in place.
