SUMMARY:Evict I.C.E. Weekly Protest @ 250 Delaware
DESCRIPTION:You know you’re at 250 Delaware.\nOn the first floor\, there’s a fine dining restaurant\, and across the lobby is the entrance to a luxury hotel. People come and go from the building every day without realizing that just a few floors above them\, on the seventh floor\, ICE is deciding the fate of our neighbors — whether they will be allowed to remain in the city they call home or face indefinite detention and deportation. \nUniland leases 250 Delaware to the federal government for ICE operations. That lease expires on March 31\, 2027. \nWe’re calling on Uniland to not renew the lease. Join us for our weekly pickets \nThe Facts\n\n\nBuffalo DHS Operations\n\nDowntown Buffalo’s 250 Delaware Avenue houses four ICE offices that control operations\, detention management\, reporting\, logistics\, and administration for all of New York State outside of NYC.\nEvery ICE action in Western New York\, Central New York\, the Finger Lakes\, Southern Tier\, North Country\, Mohawk Valley\, Capital Region\, and Mid-Hudson — all of it — is coordinated from 250 Delaware.\nAnd it’s not just coordination and administration — 250 Delaware has holding cells where adults and children are held for days before transfer or deportation.\n\n\n\nWho Owns 250 Delaware\n\nUniland Development (the Montante family) owns the building and Delaware North (the Jacobs family) is the anchor tenant. In 2013\, the Erie County Industrial Development Agency approved $9.6 million in property and sales tax breaks for this project — public money that subsidized a building now profiting from ICE operations.\nToday\, Uniland collects $2 million per year from ICE’s lease\, while taxpayers continue to subsidize the building through generous tax abatement that cost Buffalo and Erie County $791\,000 in 2024 alone.\n\nOur tax dollars are helping landlords profit from mass deportations.

SUMMARY:Community vs. Oligarchy: Buffalo's Cooperative Movement
DESCRIPTION:The WNY Peace Center is proud to be a co-sponsor of Rights of Nature WNY’s ongoing community discussions! \nJoin us for a presentation and discussion with speakers from Cooperation Buffalo and Rights of Nature WNY. We’ll explore Buffalo’s Cooperative Movement\, and how we can strengthen community economies and grassroots democracy to create alternatives to US oligarchy. \nRights of Nature is an international movement dedicated to a paradigm shift from our current system\, which views nature as property or resources to be used for human consumption\, to one deserving of respect and rights similar to those of humans (and\, in the United States\, corporations). This means a river\, mountain range\, forest\, watersheds\, or ocean could have the right to exist and flourish without human-caused disruption\, granting them legal standing so people and communities could defend those rights in court on behalf of the ecosystem. It recognizes that earth systems and humans are interconnected and dependent on each other. \nRON aims to shift culture and environmental governance from an exploitative\, human-centered (anthropocentric) approach to an eco-centric one. Rights of Nature Western New York (RON WNY) is a group of people who are advocating for this shift in how we relate to our world through community rights\, the responsibilities we have to our world and future generations\, and practices that deepen our relationship with place. Most importantly\, we advocate for a societal change from our current “business as usual” model to one that affirms ALL life. If you are interested in joining us\, please email rightsofnaturewny@gmail.com.
