Tashlich Ritual & Action to Mark One Year of War – Hoyt Lake

October 6 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Tashlich Ritual & Action to Mark One Year of Genocide
When: Sunday, October 6th, 5:30 pm
Where: Hoyt Lake
MOURN THE DEAD, FIGHT FOR THE LIVING – On October 6th, 2024 JVP Buffalo will be taking part in a nation-wide mass public ritual-action for the 5785 High Holy Days season, to channel grief into action to stop the genocide in Palestine.
On October 6th, we will grieve 76 years of Palestinian death and dispossession by the Israeli regime. We will grieve the Israelis killed and taken hostage on 10/7. We will grieve the tens of thousands of Palestinians killed, tortured, displaced, kidnapped, and starved this year.
The only way to end the violence is to stop sending arms to the Israeli military, which is putting everyone’s life at risk. We call on the U.S. government to stop sending weapons and funding to the Israeli military. For the survival of everyone in the region, we need an arms embargo now.
This year, our spiritual crisis demands attending to for the sake of our movements’ spiritual health. Our pain has only multiplied over the past year; it is coupled by rage that the Israeli and US governments’ claim that Jewish grief and fear is justification for genocide. Repair requires action and the Tashlich ritual is the perfect container for the marriage of this work.
Tashlich means to cast away and in this ancient ritual we cast away our transgressions in preparation for the New Year. This year casting away our transgressions requires casting away our complicity in the Israeli military’s genocide. We call on the U.S. government to implement an immediate arms embargo now. We demand: STOP ARMING ISRAEL.
To make this ritual-action visually powerful and in keeping with the tradition of wearing white for the High Holy Days, please wear all white.
We will have banners and signs with our key message – “We mourn for the dead and fight for the living.” And “Arms embargo now”.
Please leave signs and other apparel at home until the next protest!
We will meet at Hoyt Lake at 5:30PM.
